Windows XP Update Options

Windows XP Update provides a new way to update Windows XP easily.

Although it is very much automated in the way it is readily configured to run at a scheduled time, there are few options we can change the way Windows XP Update performs. Ok, go down to business.

First we need to open the Windows XP Automatic Updates window Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates

Basically here we can configure the ways Windows XP Automatic Updates run and the timing.

  1. Automatic(recommended) - Automatically download recommended updates for your PC and install them at a preset day of the week and time.

    So you should probably set it to run when you sleep, so that it won’t disturb your daily work, or game, or what ever task that you do.

  2. Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them - More control on the Windows XP Automatic Update process.

    As the title goes, the Windows XP Automatic Update process will downlaod the neccessory windows update. Once finished download, it will notify you and you can set the time for the downloaded updates to be performed on your system.

  3. Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them. - Windows XP Automatic Update will try to check for new Windows update and will notify you if there is any.

    However, you have the final say whether you want to download or install the updates.

  4. Turn off Automatic Updates. - Totally turn off Windows XP Automatic Update.

    In case you want to receive latest Windows Update, you will have to either manully turn it on using option a, b or c (see above).

    Optionally, you can also go to Windows Update website for the latest Windows XP Update patches.

Regularly update windows with latest patches and security updates is important to avoid malicious attacks and increase system stability.
