Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) is a service used by Windows during software application installation and configuration.

MSI is the de-facto standard for software installation and configuration on Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

MSI provides technologies for a smoother and flexible installation progress. T

he most current version of MSI for Windows XP is Windows Installer 3.0.

There are two ways to do Windows Installer Update.

  1. Automatic come as part of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2. So exsiting Windows XP user should upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 2 to update their Windows Installer Service. For Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 users, they should download the redistributable exe (see next step).

  2. Download Windows Installer 3.0 Redistributable

    The MSI redistributable exe (WindowsInstaller-KB884016-v2-x86.exe) is available thru Microsoft Windows Download Center. It is available to customers with genuine Microsoft Windows.
