Why do we have Windows 2000 related system tips under Windows XP Tips section, you may ask.
MSConfig is a useful windows system utility. It is a standard feature comes with Windows 98 and Windows XP, but not Windows 2000.

So here goes the title, “MSConfig for Windows 2000″.
The following steps will provide useful information on how to copy Windows XP’s MSConfig to Windows 2000.
- Copy msconfig.exe from Windows XP’s “C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\”
- Paste it to Windows 2000’s “C:\Winnt\system32\”
- That’s it.
To run it, use Start Menu -> Run “msconfig”
Beware of few minor error messages on fail to find
- config.sys
- auoexec.bat
- system.ini and
- win.ini
A simple usage of MSConfig for Windows 2000 is ability to enable or disable startup programs and windows system services. We disable those services we do not need to use, and when we do, we just manually start it up.
Thus freeing up precious system memory and reduce Windows 2000 system startup time.
