Missing taskbar?

Well, missing taskbar in Windows XP is a common problem faced by novice users who are not familiar with mouse, keyboard and shortcuts.

How Come My Taskbar Is Missing?

Actuallt there are few reasons why your windows taskbar is missing.

  1. A misplaced taskbar - A taskbar can be sometimes misplaced when users accidentally drag and drop them.

  2. A partially hidden taskbar - A taskbar that is partially hidden y other taskbar, thus making it seems missing from screen.
    Example is the Go taskbar here. It is partially hidden by Back taskbar.

  3. Being minimized - Sometimes taskbar such as Windows Start Menu taskbar is missing because it has been minimized.
    For example, notice the mouse cursor changed to resize cursor? It means your start menu is minimized and current cursor position is on the start menu.

Ok, so now we know why the taskbar is missing, how do we make them reappear?

    Missing Taskbar - Resize Cursor

  1. Return to original postion - By carefully placing your mouse cursor to a minimized taskbar, you will notice the mouse cursor turned to resize cursor.

    Now, press left mouse button and drag the taskbar to a visible position, then drop it. Now you will have your taskbar back.

  2. Can’t find the resize cursor?

    Well, there is another way, press Windows key, a start menu will pop out. Right click on the start menu, select Properties, then go to Taskbar tab. Missing Taskbar - Start Menu Properties

  3. Uncheck “Auto-hide the taskbar” and check “Keep the taskbar on top of other windows”, then press OK.

There you go, you just find your missing taskbar.
