KB896423 is a Windows XP security patch on the vulnerability in Print Spooler service that could allow remote code execution on your Windows XP systems.

This vulnerability in print spooler sevice was first reported by Kostya Kortchinsky from CERT RENATER. A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the Printer Spooler service that could allow an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability to take complete control of the affected system.

This is a remote code execution vulnerability. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could remotely take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.

However, attempts to exploit this vulnerability could most likely result in a denial of service condition. An attacker could try to remotely exploit the vulnerability by creating a specially crafted message and sending the message to an affected system.

The message could then cause the affected system to execute code on operating system versions and configurations that were vulnerable to remote attack vectors.
