Create Windows XP Boot Disk

    Windows XP Boot Disk is a set of six diskettes. It is used to perform a new installation of Windows XP Professional or Home Edition.

    After create Windows XP Boot disk, we can use them to startup PC and automatically load the correct CD-ROM drivers and subsequently start a new installation of Windwos XP setup.

    This boot disk set is for a new installation of Windows XP, upgrade Windows is done by running Windows XP setup from within Windows itself.

    OK, to create Windows XP boot disk, first we need to download a setup utility from Windows Download Center.

  1. XP Download Windows XP Boot Disk setup utility here. The latest version is for Windows XP SP2.
  2. Double click on the EXE file, answer YES to the End User License Agreement. Setup will copy neccessary files to your system. Create Windows XP Boot Disk - EULA
  3. A dos window will open. makeboot.exe will run and the following message will show. Create Windows XP Boot Disk - makeboot.exe

    “**************************************************** This program creates the Setup boot disks for Microsoft Windows XP SP2. To create these disks, you need to provide 6 blank, formatted, high-density disks. Please specify the floppy drive to copy the images to:”

  4. Enter your diskette drive letter. Usually A: or B: is the correct letter.
  5. Afer specify the diskette drive letter, put in a blank 1.44MB floopy disk.
  6. Follow on screen instruction for each of the six diskettes.
  7. After all six diskettes have been copied, put in the first diskette and restart PC to start Windows XP installation.

    Remember to change boot sequence in bios to boot 1.44MB diskette first, otherwise it will boot from CD or harddisk. Create Windows XP Boot Disk is an easy way to provide an alternative startup method after system crash.
